Brabus Mercedes E220 Hybrid Project

|

Updated on

The famous Brabus tuning company has released this eco-friendly kit for the Mercedes E220 CDI BlueEfficiency that should not be confused with the previous high performance electric drive E-Class concept. This Brabus project is another high performance Hybrid that aims in the opposite direction.

Starting with the Mercedes E220 CDI BlueEfficiency E-Class, the tuners adapted the Eco tuning module to add an extra 30 PS to the 2.2-liter diesel powerplant. Power output is now 200 PS and 450 Nm of torque.

Dual electric motors each produce 50 kW in the Eco mode, and 80 kW when switched to Sport mode. This allows a total power output of 160 kW (220 PS / 216 hp) and an impressive 1,600 Nm (1,180 lb-ft) of torque for the Mercedes E220.

A 18.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack is held underneath the Mercedes, and allows the Brabus tuned Mercedes E220 a range of 120 kilometers (75 miles). If in Sport mode, the car can travel 80 kilometers or 50 miles, solely on electric power. At the track, the economy friendly Mercedes E-Class can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. While this Mercedes E220 Hybrid Project currently not for sale, we hope to see more concept cars make it into production from Mercedes and Brabus.
