Most people tune cars for an increased visual appeal or performance numbers, but Travis Pastrana and the Red Bull team decided to jump a Subaru STirally car sending it flying nearly 250 feet! Not to mention that this crazy idea was done over water with floating barges. Earlier in the week the Red Bull guys and Travis Pastrana got together to practice the stunt in the desert where a few attempts didn’t go as planned. One of the Subaru WRX STi rally cars landed awkwardly on its side and completely crushed the suspension and frame from the devastating impact. Everything was all good however when it came down to New Year’s Eve last night with thousands of people cheering him on as they approached the new year. Subaru revealed their Impreza WRX STi Trax at the SEMA Motor Show with some amazing custom work that would be difficult to duplicate. Built for the snow tracks, the Subaru WRX STi Trax boasts 400 hp and was modified by Vermont SportsCar. Originally for famous STi driver Ken Block, the Subaru features a Mattraks rubber track system that comes second to none. The car has a completely gutted interior that was fitted with a multipoint steel roll cage, and seam-welded for extra support. Inside the Subaru Impreza are Recaro SPA ProRacer competition seats, carbon fiber door panels, and a fire suppression system.
If you’re wanting the best bang for your buck, you should consider the newly redesigned Subaru WRX STi tuned by COBB Tuning. They are an American tuning company from the Salt Lake City area that specializes in tuning Japanese makes and models. For this particular build they refrained from major upgrades that would require rebuilding the engine or upgrading the turbo, and instead took the economical approach to attract the daily driven STi’s, and those people who occasionally take them to the track on the weekends. The performance upgrades include a 3-inch downpipe with full catback exhaust, cold air intake, and their AccessPORT system which boosts this Subaru’s stats to 350 hp/353 ft-lbs of torque.
Another american tuning company has tried to modify a Subaru Impreza WRX. Perrin Performance tried to bring a lot of modifications to a WRX, from engine modifications, suspensions and exterior styling. The first step in their tuning process was installing a new, high performance exhaust system. Next, they’ve modified the engine cooling unit and now the car’s engine could develop 385 HP and a maximum torque of 540 Nm. The tuning process continued by installing new suspensions from H&R.
