It is now time to prepare for the VW Beetle tuning wars as ABT Sportsline has just released some images of their initial renderings. Last month we saw some styling improvements from the Volkswagen enthusiast website VWVortex, and now we have the “Speedle” version from ABT. They will have several performance kits available for the VW Beetle, produing 140 HP for the 1.2 TSI engine, 210 HP for the 1.4 TSI, and 240 horsepower for the flagship 2.0 TSI powerplant. Diesel models will range from 125-170 HP, however the VW tuners are still manufacturing the parts and won’t be in customer hands until September.
abt tuning
Typically the tuners at ABT focus on the VW projects, but this time they came to the Geneva Motor Show with a new 600 horsepower Audi R8 V10 Spyder. The German tuning firm pulled 620 hp to be exact, and the Audi R8 looks better than ever. It received a red paint job with black styling throughout, along with many carbon fiber parts. Some to name include the front skirt, rear skirt, windscreen cover, air scoops, and the engine bay finished with carbon. These aftermarket parts help reduce the weight of the Audi sports car, while the flagship vehicle received new wheels measuring either 19 or 20-inches. Performance specifications come next.
ABT Sportsline released a new line of styling kits this past week, the two we have here are for the Audi A8 and Audi R8 GTR cars. Starting with the new GTR-version for the Audi R8, the V10 supercar received a lot of lightweight aerodynamic parts to enhance its appearance. With a new front bonnet, front and rear aprons, and carbon fiber adjustable rear wing, the aggressive R8 GTR looks like it could take on the notorious Nissan GTR. The windows were even replaced with Makrolon pieces, a super strong, lightweight material that is better than the factory parts. ABT’s tuning firm swapped the original door panels with carbon fiber ones, and all these feather-like additions made the Audi R8 GTR 100 kg lighter than the stock model.
Recently Sportec upgraded the Audi TT-RS to 400 hp, but now ABT has released their latest car tuning kit for the Audi on the German market. The brand new Audi TT-RS from the factory comes with 340 hp which isn’t bad, however ABT decided it was not enough for the convertible. They were able to increase the horsepower by 80, for a total of 420 hp, which is the same horsepower number for a stock Audi R8. This is a great figure for some simple engine tuning, and the track numbers are just as impressive. At the track, the customized Audi TT-RS was able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, with a top speed limited to 282 km/h. That is only the Stage 1 kit installed by the tuning experts, now imagine what a Stage 2 or Stage 3 could do for the new Audi.
ABT Sportsline released a tuning programme for the new Audi Q5 last year at the Essen Motor and during that time they were offering power upgrades only for the 2.0 TFSI and 3.0 TDI models. The car received an entirely new front apron with a large spoiler with integrated fog lamps and a huge front grille that makes this Q5 really aggressive. The body modifications continue with wider fenders, door trims, 22″ alloy wheels, a rear skirt that houses the new exhaust system with four tailpipes and an ABT muffler and a small rear wing. Recently, the company has announced that their Audi Q5 got new engine upgrades and with a so-called ABT Power package they manage to increase HP for every engine. The 2.0 TDI was upgraded from 170 HP to 190 HP and the 3.0L TDI version outputs now 310 HP. The gasoline engines got a more powerful version and the guys from ABT manged to upgrade the engine from 211 HP to 275 HP.
