Celebrating its tenth birthday, the British car manufacturer Ariel has launched a more powerful version of the Atom that comes tuned by Mugen. The powerplant consists of an original Honda K20Z Type R engine, which received a slight power upgrade to bring the number to 270 horsepower. This is a 25bhp increase over the stock figure, however Ariel only plans to produce ten of these Mugen Atom units. Each will receive its own unique numbered plate, while the first completed model will be on display at the Autosport show in January, along with the full price and final specifications.

Here is a tuned version of the Ariel Atom 3 from the guys at Wimmer RS. You may already know that the company who makes the Ariel Atom is now offering a 500 hp V8 version, but to be honest, that is too much power for this lightweight car. So, Wimmer RS came to play with an upgrade package capable of squeezing an extra 40 hp out of the 4-cylinder Civic engine that produces 300 horsepower stock. Included in the kit is a new engine optimization software, compressor overhaul, fuel pump conversion, and a high performance exhaust system put together by Rennkat. Results are 340 hp and 282 Nm of torque from this Ariel Atom 3 that only weighs 469 kg. Driving this go-kart-like car is blast, and the track numbers prove it with a 0 to 100 km/h time of just 2.8 seconds.
